The Early Years

Since I'm David Wright's older brother, you might say I've known him all his
life...  And, since I was not only the oldest of three sons but the oldest
grandchild, I was treated slightly different.  I got to sit with the grown-ups at
the supper table at all family get togethers while Don and David were stuck
at the table for all those younger than me.  Consequently, they grew up
doing most things together.  About the time I discovered girls, they
discovered painting.  At the ripe old ages of 13 for Don and 11 for David
they decided to embark on a project of magnificent proportions.  They would
co-paint a civil war battle scene.  Don would paint the confederate soldiers
while David painted the union soldiers.  The product of their endeavor is
pictured below.

Soon, Don turned his attention to other things but David kept painting and at
the age of 15 entered a painting in the art show at the Tennessee State Fair.
His painting won the prestigious "People's Choice" award against some of
the finest painters in the state.  This painting was later destroyed in a fire but
a black and white photograph of it is shown below.

After graduating from high school David entered "The Harris School of Art" in
Nashville, Tn.  The high light of his years at Harris was his opportunity to
travel to Italy with a selected group of students and spend a summer going to
museums, seeing the works of the great Italian painters and of course
painting.  One of these paintings is also shown below.
