David Wright Special Projuects
|

Over the years David Wright has been commissioned to produce paintings
that were used to produce posters or prints for Special Projects. It could be
a non-profit organization wanting to raise money or a state, city, or
organization wanting to commemorate an event.
1979 (Nashville, Tennessee's Bi-Centennial year) - David was commissioned
by NASHVILLE! magazine and The Mayor’s Century 111 Commission to
capture on canvas, in a series of six historical paintings, the full scope and
story of Nashville's epic history. The paintings were used to illustrate each
forty year segment of the book "NASHVILLE: The Face of Two Centuries"
and produced as a Limited Edition commemorative set which was sold to
finance the project. "A New Beginning" (shown in the photograph below)
depicting the James Robertson party crossing the frozen Cumberland River
into what is now Nashville, was used as an illustration leading into chapter
one. The other five paintings can be seen in the Landscape Era section.
1982 - David was commissioned to do a painting which was reproduced as
the official poster for the "Fine Arts Pavilion" at the 1982 World's Fair held in
Knoxville, Tennessee.
1982 - David was commissioned to paint a Tennessee landscape which
became the "1982 Tennessee Democratic Party Convention Commemorative
Print". The print "Winter In Tennessee" was co-signed by, then, U S Senator
Jim Sasser and, then, Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman, Bart Gordon
who has now been a U S Congressman for over 25 years. David points out
to his Republican friends that he considered himself an independent then
and still does.
1988 - David was commissioned to do a painting commemorating 50 years
of Little League Baseball. The print, "First Time Out" was co-signed by the
1987 "Rookie of the Year" and rookie home-run record holder, Mark
McGwire when he was with the Oakland A's.
1996 (Robertson County, Tenn Bi-Centennial year) - David was
commissioned by the Cross Plains Historical Commission to do a painting,
“Beyond The Settlements", which was reproduced as a poster
commemorating the event.
