Before and during his early years of concentrating his efforts toward sports
art, like most young illustrators in the LA area in the 70's, Chuck's work came
mostly from the movie studios and record companies. Promotion art for the
studios and album covers for the record companies. The last album cover
Chuck did was in 1978. "Carole King, Her Greatest Hits" is pictured below.
When a British company wanted to make what they heralded as the greatest
"Tarzan" film ever, they had to get permission from the family of Edgar Rice
Burroughs. Part of the Burroughs family's agreement with the production
company was that they had to hire Chuck Ren to create all of the promotion
art for the film. When the Burroughs family had a falling out with the
production company over some things they didn't agree with in the film, they
wouldn't let "Tarzan" be used in the title. "Tarzan of the Apes" became
"Greystoke" and even though the Burroughs family was no longer connected
with the film, the producers where sold on Chuck and insisted that he finish
the film.
